Poached Eggs Burgundian from Nero Wolfe Cook Book, originally from Rex Stout’s Death of a Doxy. This recipe is a great example of the loving detail included in Rex Stout’s recipes. The combined skills of a novelist and a cook make for a truly wonderful cookbook.

Rex Stout wrote more than sixty Nero Wolfe detective stories, and many of them feature lengthy discussions of recipes, ingredients, and methods of cooking. Stout said that he had cooked all the dishes cited in his fiction, along with the New Yorker food critic Sheila Hibben. This book is very nicely laid out, with excerpts from the novels and stories proceeding the recipes.
