Mrs. Lincoln’s Orange Charlotte Recipe from Mrs. Lincoln’s Boston Cook Book, 1884
Mrs. Lincoln’s Orange Charlotte Recipe:
Mrs. Lincoln’s Boston Cook Book, 1884: First edition, first printing of one of the most famous antique cookbooks of the United States, Mrs. Lincoln’s Boston Cook Book, published in 1884 by Roberts Brothers, Boston. Probably the most famous American cookbook. Mrs. Lincoln’s copyright was for 1883. With the marbled green, brown, and black boards and green spine cover and binding. 536 pages, plus index, 7 pages of illustrated advertisements, AND 22 blank pages, for additional recipes, still blank. Boards are still attached, and binding is tight. We’ve had about twenty copies of this cookbook in the 19 years we’ve been selling cookbooks on the Internet. This copy is by far the best copy we’ve had. The original owner of this historic cookbook wrote her name on the fly leaf, then put the book aside. She must have had another favorite cookbook. Every single page of this cookbook is spotless. The binding is perfect. The cover has a bit of shelf wear, but other than that, this cookbook is essentially mint!
(A copy of Mrs. Lincoln’s Boston Cook Book, first edition, first printing, in excellent condition would be priced at well over $1,000.)
