Hunter Sifter Cook Book, 1884, First Edition, First Printing in Excellent Antique Condition: Subtitled “A Collection of New and Valuable Receipts and Information for Every Housekeeper. Published by The Hunter Sifter M’F’G Co., Cincinnati and New York, 1884. Hard cover book with 281 pages. Cook book is in excellent antique condition. The elaborately embossed cover is in good condition, with shelf wear especially at the edges and corners. Hinges are exposed, but holding well. Binding is completely firm. Pages are mainly clean and clear, with some spotting on a few pages. The very last page–with ads for Howell’s Patent Rain Water Cut-off for Cisterns and Alba Lamps–has a 3” tear. There are many pages of advertising with illustrations.
This cookbook has the most honest and forthright preface I’ve ever read. It says,
“We have no excuses to make for publishing our Cook Book, except this:
The public needs a good Cook Book that is well bound, and can be sold cheap. We want a Cook Book to sell with and help advertise our household articles.
We have with great expense, procured receipts from all parts of the country, compiled, arranged and published this book, which we think will supply both wants.”
