Mango Rhum Recipe from Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Cookbook, 1942, 1960

Yes, we have the cookbook. See it here: Cross Creek Cookery, First British Edition, First Printing, 1942 1960, with Dust Jacket, As-If-New Condition! Still with Errata Sheet!

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Cookbook,by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, whose most famous novel is The Yearling, Now published as The Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Cookbook, published by Hammond, Hammond & Company, London, (Here’s the Wikipedia link for a brief Rawlings biography: Wikipedia link for Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.) Although Rawlings was born in Washington, D.C., and went to college at University of Wisconsin-Madison, she bought a 72-acre orange grove outside a very small Florida town called Cross Creek. Much of her fiction was set in Cross Creek, and so is this cookbook! One of the most entertaining cookbooks I’ve ever read, Cross Creek Cookery tells about the ingredients that came from Florida, the local people Rawlings cooked with, and the great local cooks who gave her recipes.

Cross Creek Cookery was first published by Charles Scriber’s Sons, New York, in 1942, as a hard cover book with linen-covered boards and 230 pages. This British edition was published in 1960. It is illustrated with drawings by Robert Camp. Dust jacket is in nearly mint condition, and it is now safely encased in Mylar.  The book is in nearly mint condition. The very heavy paper pages are lightly and uniformly tanned. Cover has NO shelf wear. Hinges and binding are in fine condition. First edition, first printing, as shown by the “A” on the copyright page.  Wonderful gift, especially for someone with Florida connections.
