Practical Recipes, Mrs. B. B. Cutter, 1909, First Edition, First Printing: Difficult to find hard of a famous antique cookbook. Published by Duffield & Company, New York in August of 1909. No second printing is listed. Hard cover book with green linen covered boards. 177 pages. Cover has shelf wear, especially at the edges. Front hinge is weak, but holding. Back hinge is perfect. binding is solid. Pages are mainly clean and clear, although several have very light spots.

Compared to many of her fellow authors, Mrs. Cutter takes a different approach to cookbook writing. There’s no index to this book; the table of contents at the front is 21 pages long and lists every single recipe, from Lilla’s Recipe for Soup Stock to How to Make Beef Jelly (for Invalids.) The only note of philosophizing is at the back of the book, in the chapter called Hints to Young Housekeepers, she provides advice like, “Always order veal kidneys.”
