New Hood Cook Book, 1941, with Many Additional Recipes from Hood Newsletter: Large, handsome volume of the New Hood Cook Book, published in 1941 by H. P. Hood & Sons, producers of dairy products. Subtitled: A Modern Cook Book of Practical Recipes with 1195 Modern Recipes Covering All Types of Food Preparation in American Homes. Linen covered hard board embossed with a woven background and with the titles embossed in gold. 394 pages. Pages are printed on clay-coated paper. All are clear and clean, and uniformly tanned at the edges. The binding is tight. The hinges are in good shape. The cover has some very minor shelf wear at the edges and the corners are bumped. This cookbook is in excellent antique condition. Definitely gift quality!
H. P. Hood & Sons was founded in in 1846, and they have been publishing cookbooks since they were first founded. (See one of the earliest cookbooks, Hood’sCook Book Number 3, here: https://www.vintagecookbook.com/product/hoods-cook-book-number-three/.) They also sent out monthly newsletters to subscribers, and the newsletters had recipes that the subscribers could cut out and place in their cookbooks. The first owner carefully clipped and taped many of these recipes into this volume. (See these images and VintageCookbook.com’s recipe file.) So, you are getting more than the advertised 1195 modern recipes.
