Two Hundred Successful Pie Recipes, Lulu Thompson Silvernail, 1947, As-If-New Condition! This is an exquisite copy of Silvernail’s fourth cookbook, following her Nine Hundred Successful Recipes and One Thousand Successful Recipes. All of Silvernail’s cookbooks were self-published, and all of them have this elegantly embossed cover. She taught cooking classes all over the United States, and perhaps she used her cookbooks in her classes. This cookbook opens with an excellent list of cooking term definitions, as well as 12 pages of “Rules and Suggestions” with rules like, “THE UNDER CRUST OF A PIE SHOULD BE THICKER THAT THE UPPERCRUST.” Then, the pie recipes. (You really shouldn’t read these if you are hungry.) From the Affinity Pie and the Airy Fairy Pie to the Washington Pie and the Whipped Cream Pie. She also has chapters on making several types of pie crust and on meringue and toppings.
This hard cover book is in pristine condition. The binding is perfect. The hinges are perfect. The 158 pages are completely clean and clear, including the last 16 ruled but blank pages for extra recipes.
