“Dame Curtsey’s” Book of Recipes, 1909, Ellye Howell Glover, First Edition, First Printing:  Cookbook written by Ellye Howell Glover and published by A. C. McClurg & Co. in 1909 in England.  In the United States, it was printed by The Lakeside Press, R. R. Donnelley & Sons, Chicago.    The Dame Curtsey books were a series, including “Dame Curtsey’s” Book of Novel Entertainments for Every Day in the Year, “Dame Curtsey’s”  Book of Guessing Contests, “Dame Curtsey’s” Book of Etiquette.  This book is a hard cover book with 484 pages.  The cover has some shelf wear, especially at the edges.  The front hinge is exposed, but holding.  The back hinge is perfect. The first two pages have separated from the binding.  The remaining pages are firmly attached to the binding.  All pages are clear and clean.

Dame Curtsey’s Book of Recipes includes a chapter on setting the table for many occasions, one on recipes from foreign lands, chafing dish chapter, one on school and picnic lunches, one on  creole and southern recipes, and one on menus for all occasions.  It is a comprehensive cookbook with chapters on canapes, cocktails, and fruits; soup and soup accessories; fish sea food; meats, bird, and poultry; vegetables and sauces; salads and salad accessories; eggs, cheese, macaroni, spaghetti, and rice; pies, short-cakes, etc.  It has an entire chapter on croquettes.
