Burke’s Complete Cocktail Recipes: Burke’s Complete Cocktail Drinking Recipes: The full title of this famous small, leather-bound book is Burke’s Complete Cocktail & Drinking Recipes with Recipes for Food Bits for the Cocktail Hour. The title on the cover is better: Burke’s Complete Cocktail and Tastybite Recipes. (Don’t you just love that word “tastybite?”) It was written by Harman Burney Burke, aka Barney Burke, and it was published in 1934 by Books, Inc., New York and Boston. This copy was printed in 1936. Good vintage condition. Pages are all clean and clear. Hand stitch binding is in excellent, solid condition. Hinges are weak, but holding.

Burke’s Complete Cocktail & Drinking Recipes has a second subtitle, The Art and Etiquette of Mixing, Serving and Drinking Wines and Liquors. Book measures 6 1/4″ high by 4 1/4″ wide, and it has just 93 pages, but it this relatively small space, Burke manages to cover many cocktails and drinks not mentioned in other sources (like the Bouncer Cocktail and Evening Shades,) but also World Famous Drink Recipes, the Etiquette of Drinking, selection of Wines, the Alcoholic Content of Wines and Liquors, plus his “Food Bits” for the Cocktail Hour, Luncheon and Late Evening Snacks, Canapes, Lobster Choices, Rarebits, and Sandwiches!
